The Presidential Commission for the Urban Poor is encouraging the marginalized sector in the Visayas to organize to have more effective and faster access to its programs and service as well as to other government agencies.
Chairperson and chief executive officer Alvin Feliciano said the agency’s accreditation caravan and national urban poor assembly has been successfully launched to continue until April 26 in the Visayas region.
The commission is strongly promoting its programs for the benefit of urban poor organizations to enable them to have a stronger voice regarding their problems and issues, and to provide them with appropriate solutions “in the appropriate manner and effective consultation.”
The agency’s programs also aim to promote a proper representation of the poor sector to be part of the PCUP in formulating policies and implementing programs relevant to their interests and development.
“It is time for us to give opportunity to our poor countrymen to actively participate in the programs and initiatives of our government for the betterment of their lives,” Feliciano said.
“We at PCUP, will continue to encourage poor organizations not only in the Visayas region, but also across the country to register and have their group accredited by PCUP and become a legitimate urban poor organization that will be our agency’s partner toward a more comprehensive and organized communication for the promotion of a stable, convenient, and secured life for all,” he cited.
The kickoff of the accreditation caravan and NUPA was also held in Cebu City North on April 20 and in Mandaue City on April 21.
Feliciano said it will continue April 23 in Lapu-Lapu City and on April 26 in Toledo City.
