LRT-1 to stop service on two weekends of April to complete maintenance works

Light Rail Manila Corp. on Tuesday announced the temporary suspension of Light Rail Transit Line 1 operations for two weekends in April to continue the maintenance works.

LRMC said the shutdown of LRT-1 on April 17 to 18 and April 24 to 25 would allow the company to complete the remaining maintenance and rehabilitation works that started during the Holy Week.

It said the works would cover the maintenance of trains, stations and various systems, including the scheduled replacement of overhead catenary wires.

The additional days will also accelerate the preparations for the commercial use of the new Generation-4 train sets in the fourth quarter of 2021, it said.

The Department of Transportation confirmed the deployment of public utility buses, running on Route 17 (Monumento to EDSA via Rizal Avenue/Taft Avenue), to support affected commuters during the temporary weekend shutdown.

There will be no changes in the service schedule of LRT-1 on weekdays, with the northbound train running from 4:30 a.m. to 9:15 p.m. and southbound train from 4:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.

LRMC said it would continue to enforce health and safety protocols and comply with IATF guidelines while performing the maintenance works during this period.

It advised the riding public to be guided accordingly and plan their essential trips ahead during the next two weekends.
