The Department of Justice’s-led Task Force Against Corruption has already received more than 200 complaints and it is set to file its first complaint before the Office of the Ombudsman.
Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra said that as of February 15, the TFAC has received a total of 208 complaints, but only 148 of these complaints are corruption related cases.
Guevarra said that 69 of these complaints are subject of ongoing evaluation, while 40 cases have already been endorsed for investigation by other TFAC member-agencies.
“One complaint will be filed with the Office of the Ombudsman,” Guevarra said in a text message to reporters.
According to Guevarra, these cases filed before the TFAC were complaints against several national government agencies, Government-Owned and Controlled Corporations (GOCC), and a large number of local government units.
The TFACT has been receiving complaints on corruption since it was formed in October of last year following President Duterte’s commitment to take on a tougher campaign against corruption during the remaining years of his term.
Guevarra said that they have received complaints alleging violations of the Anti-Graft Law, Procurement Law, Commission on Audit (COA) rules, and Social Amelioration Programs, overpricing, ghost projects, unfinished projects, kickbacks and commissions, bribery, extortion, smuggling, fake land titles, falsified free patents, and other fraudulent, corrupt, or illegal acts committed by public officials and private persons.
Earlier, Guevarra admitted that some of the complaints they received were related to Department of Public Works and Highways projects.
They have also taken over the investigations being handled by the Presidential Anti-Corruption Commission’s to verify the allegations that nine congressmen and 14 DPWH district engineers are reportedly involved in corruption activities.
