CLARK FREEPORT—Retired Police Brig. Gen. Manuel Gaerlan on Tuesday joined the growing list of former police and military generals occupying sensitive positions in the government following his appointment as president and CEO of Clark Development Corporation.

Gaerlan, who served the Philippine National Police ably before joining the corporate world, received his appointment papers on Jan 11.

“President Rodrigo Duterte has approved the nomination of [Director Manuel R]. Gaerlan as the new President and Chief Executive Officer of Clark Development Corporation.” said Noel Tulabot, head of the CDC-Media Affairs Department.

Malacanang announced the appointment in a letter signed by Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea.  The letter was addressed to the members of the CDC board.

The CDC board, executives and staff regard the appointment as a welcome development. Mariza Mandocdoc, Officer-In-Charge of the Office of the CDC President, said she was thankful that President Duterte appointed a new President and CEO from the members of the CDC board.

“Director Gaerlan is very much aware of the opportunities and challenges that Clark faces. With his inspiring leadership, CDC will be able to accomplish much much more for Clark and its stakeholders,” Mandocdoc said.

Gaerlan will take his Oath as CDC president and CEO on Jan. 14 during a special organizational meeting of the CDC board.
