The Supreme Court has granted the request of Associate Justice Priscilla Baltazar-Padilla for an early retirement due to health reasons.

In a media briefer released by the high court’s Public Information Office, the Court said it had approved Padilla’s application for an early retirement due to “physical disability.”

“The Court approved the application for the disability retirement of Justice Priscilla Baltazar-Padilla effective today, 3 November 2020,” the high court said. It provided no other details.

At age 62, Baltazar-Padilla was appointed to the 15-member bench in July as the 188th associate justice of the Supreme Court and was not expected to retire until 2028.

She graduated magna cum laude from the Lyceum College of Law and placed fifth in the 1984 Bar Exams.

Baltazar-Padilla started her career in the judiciary in 1996 as a presiding judge of the Metropolitan Trial Court of Manila Branch 29, and became presiding judge of the Manila Regional Trial Court Branch 38 in 2000. She was appointed to the Court of Appeals in 2006.
