Enforcers to help cops in Taguig

The Taguig City government has formed a group of enforcers to help the police implement city ordinances and other health and safety measures to prevent the spread of coronavirus disease.

"Taguig has activated a 1000-man Tapang Malasakit Disiplina team to help the Philippine National Police enforce the city's new normal ordinance that aims to help stop the spread of COVID-19," said Mayor Lino Edgardo Cayetano in a statement.

Last Saturday, authorities placed 16 individuals under police custody for violating quarantine protocols.

PNP deputy chief for administration Lt. Gen. Guillermo Eleazar said his men together with Taguig local enforcers apprehended those persons while in the middle of a street party in Barangay Lower Bicutan around 10:30 p.m.

The arrest was made a day after the PNP created an official social media account where people can report individuals violating health and safety protocols.

"The City Government of Taguig would like to congratulate COVID Shield Task Force Commander Lt. Gen. Guillermo Eleazar for the arrest by his men, together with the Taguig police led by Col. Celso Rodriguez, of these individuals who were found in violation of City Ordinance 27-89 that prohibits drinking in public places," said Mayor Cayetano.

Those arrested were also charged with violating Article 151 of the Revised Penal Code for resistance and disobedience to a person in authority.

Cayetano said the city government will continue to pursue violators of health and safety protocols.

"Taguig's citizens are mostly disciplined and cooperative but like any city, it faces challenges. The city takes pride in being among the cities with the lowest active Covid-19 cases in Metro Manila," he said.

Eecently, the Taguig City police arrested more than 400 individuals violating the enhanced community quarantine policy imposed by the government amid the coronavirus disease outbreak.

Most of those apprehended were unauthorized persons outside residence while at least 70 minors were caught violating the curfew ordinance.

Other persons were reprimanded for violating the social distancing protocol.

Cayetano said despite having early COVID-19 cases in March, Taguig was among the cities with the lowest active cases in Metro Manila because of its aggressive approach in implementing rules and regulations.

"Although the city's comprehensive approach is centered on compassion and education–partnering with individuals and institutions to fight the virus—the city continues to vow to pursue cases against individuals and establishments not cooperating," he said.
