Amid the challenges the pandemic has brought to the hard-hit fashion industry, homegrown footwear label Annie & Lori releases its most sustainable line of shoes to date.
“The past months have been a struggle for us but we want to keep marching on and to continue supporting Filipino artisans,” says Faith Mijares, head designer of Annie & Lori.
She adds, “We have been working with them for the past years and we don’t want to let this pandemic to stop them from practicing their craft and producing beautiful creations that our country can be proud of.”
The Vogue-approved brand launches Sako collection which reflects the rich cultural heritage and agricultural resources of the Philippines.
Carefully and skillfully handcrafted by Filipino footwear artisans, the new collection is made with jute, resulting in not only sustainable and eco-friendly products, but durable and stylish as well.
It features two variations of stylish loafers—one is a combination of white jute and red leather accent and the other combines natural-colored jute with yellow-beige leather accent.
Also part of the collection is a pair of 2 ½-inch Sako platform available in bone and white, and Sako pumps, available in white with an intricate design inspired by the Philippine flag.
The collection is the latest addition to Annie & Lori’s growing list of sustainable products. In 2019, the brand introduced a vegetable-tanned leather collection using cowhide leather.
Earlier this year, Annie & Lori was recognized by British Vogue as a brand that reflects the Filipino culture while keeping its minimalist and chic style. The feature highlighted its take on the traditional bakya or wooden clogs.
