P250k reward set for Dilao killers

Caloocan City Mayor Oscar Malapitan is offering a P250,000 cash reward to any person who could identify the killers of Barangay 151 chairman Douglas Dilao.

Police are still facing a blank wall as to what the motive is behind the killing of the 59-year-old Dilao.

Caloocan City Police director Col. Dario Menor said they were still waiting for Joan Cañedo, 33, the live-in partner of the victim, to cooperate and shed light.

“We are still giving the victim’s family members enough time to grieve before they approach us to issue their statements,” he said.

Cañedo's statement is important to the investigation since she was with the victim during the shooting incident, he said.

Five armed men, all in black jackets and black face masks on board three motor bikes, shot and

killed Dilao on Progreso Street just a few meters away from his house past midnight last Saturday.

“The task force is expecting vital information that she (Cañedo) can provide to possibly shed

light to the killing since she was with the victim when he was attacked,” Menor said.

The victim was a long-time friend of the mayor.

Malapitan assured the confidentiality of the informant’s identity.

“My instruction to the police is identify the perpetrators and give justice to captain Dilao over his death,” he said.

According to Menor, the task force is now focusing on closed-circuit television cameras in the area to help identify the perpetrators of the crime.

The mayor’s son, Rep. Dale Malapitan, said the slain barangay chairman had received death threats.
