QC expands help to nursing moms

The Quezon City government has expanded its “Kalingang QC” program to cover high-risk nursing or “nutritionally challenged” mothers affected by the Enhanced Community Quarantine.

“Around 6,000 nursing mothers all over the city will start receiving P2,000 from the program, which we recently widened to cover more residents who need immediate help,” Mayor Joy Belmonte said.

The city government has allocated P600 million from its P2.8-billion supplemental budget for 2020 for the project expansion.

During the program’s initial roll-out, many vendors were not accounted for in the list of beneficiaries.

Also covered by the expanded program were ambulant and unregistered vendors, solo parents, persons with disability and senior citizens.

The city earmarked P200 million in its initial roll-out for 100,000 residents, including drivers of public utility jeeps, tricycles, pedicabs, taxis, Transport Network Vehicle Service and AUVs; market vendors, and other daily wage earners.
