Makati condo dwellers to get P50m worth of grocery vouchers

Makati City Mayor Abigail on Wednesday ordered the distribution of P50 million worth of grocery vouchers to city residents, including those residing in condominiums.

The city chief executive reassured her constituents that “no one will be left behind” amid the ongoing crisis brought by the coronavirus disease 2019.

Binay said that the Puregold grocery vouchers worth P500 each will be distributed initially as part of the city’s continuing efforts to alleviate the plight of its constituents during the Enhanced Community Quarantine period against the pandemic.

“We are already finalizing the mechanics and guidelines on the distribution of the grocery vouchers. This is but one of several forms of assistance that we have decided to pursue to optimize available resources for the benefit of all Makatizens,” Mayor Binay said.

She added “We are aware that everyone, even those belonging to the lower and upper middle class, is affected by the crisis. This is why condominium-dwellers, whether they are students or employees, will be among our priority recipients for the grocery vouchers.”

The city government has partnered with Puregold to allow beneficiaries the freedom to obtain essential items that they need for their daily sustenance, Binay explained.

In the early weeks of the enhanced community quarantine, the city government provided cash assistance and food packs to the informal sector, including around 7,800 jeepney and tricycle drivers.

Food packs were also delivered to some 80,000 public school students from preschool to senior high school to address their nutritional needs.

Other sectors that have been given both financial aid and relief goods from the city include some 2,000 solo parents, 13,000 persons with disabilities, and around 78,000 senior citizens.
