PBA Commissioner Willie Marcial holds a press conference announcing the cancellation of games until further notice at the PBA Office.

The Board of Governors of the Philippine Basketball Association said this following a special meeting held last Tuesday night.

In the statement, officials of the PBA said that they have “decided with prudence to cancel its on-going PBA Philippine Cup and PBA D-League Aspirants Cup games and activities and PBA 3×3 inaugurals amid growing concerns on the spread of the coronavirus disease.

“Considering the present situation surrounding COVID-19 and the Presidential declaration of Public Health Emergency, it is our paramount duty and responsibility to ensure the health and safety of our fans, players, teams, officials and staff,” said the board of governors in a statement.

Officials said the league will assess the effects of Covid-19 on a day-to-day basis.

And this is with the guidance of the parameters set by the Department of Health and the World Health Organization.

“Considering the present situation surrounding COVID-19 and the Presidential declaration of Public Health Emergency, it is our paramount duty and responsibility to ensure the health and safety of our fans, players, teams, officials and staff,” PBA wrote on its social media page.
