Benilde inaugurates Sports Bldg. to house Blazers, athletes, scholars

The De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde is set to inaugurate the college’s new Sports and Dormitory Building, a complex that boasts of state-of-the-art facilities and student and athlete-centric amenities geared towards providing an excellent training ground and housing facility for the athletes and scholars of Benilde.

The Sport and Dormitory Building is a five-storey building capable of housing at least 250 scholars in the residential areas. The complex also has a multi-function court that also doubles as a varied sporting arena, a 25-meter swimming pool, a gym area for weight training, and a sports therapy facility as well. The complex will also serve as the homebase of the Benilde Blazers, alongside all the athletes currently studying at Benilde.

With the completion of the Sports and Dormitory Building, Benilde’s Center for Sports Development could now undertake even more sports programs intended to benefit the student athletes and scholars of the college, providing an exceptional training ground for future excellence.

Most recently, Hidilyn Diaz and Agatha Chrystenzen Wong, both from Benilde, brought national pride to the country by bagging gold medals in 2019 SEA Games, in the 55kg woman’s weightlifting and women’s taolu taijiquan wushu, respectively. Diaz also won three gold medals in the 2020 Roma World Cup held in Rome, Italy, putting her in fourth ranking in the women’s 55kg category.
