President Rodrigo Duterte on Wednesday said he would have been a “gun-for-hire” targeting drug lords if he did not end up becoming a lawyer and Philippine president, claiming that he was a “killer.”
“If you think that we are a bunch of criminals or if you think that the President is a killer, you are right,” Duterte said in a speech in Malacañang.
“You might call me brutal. Maybe if I did not end up becoming a lawyer, a president, maybe I’m a gun-for-hire, too, fighting drugs,” he added.
The President said this as he expressed alarm that the future generations of Filipinos will suffer if the drug menace would not be eradicated.
Duterte have been facing two complaints before the International Criminal Court over supposed state-sponsored killings in his bloody campaign against narcotics which killed 5,000 drug suspects in police operations.
