A triple from Jeremy Guarino in the last five seconds saved the day for the Adamson Baby Falcons yesterday in the 82nd University Athletic Association of the Philippines junior basketball tournament.
Guarino’s trey off a pass from Nino Quinal lifted the Baby Falcons to a decisive 79-76 upending of the Ateneo Blue Eaglets at the Filoil Flying V Sports Center.
This earned the Baby Falcons the last seat in the Final Four semifinals after they finished the eliminations with an 8-6 win-loss record.
The Baby Falcons, led by John Figueroa with 26 points and 21 rebounds, joined the Blue Eaglets in the semis, along with the top finishing Nazareth School-National University Bullpups and the Far Eastern University Baby Tamaraws. The Blue Eaglets, with Josh Lazaro firing 23 points, settled for fourth, bearing the same win-loss record with the Baby Falcons.
In another junior match, John Lina unloaded 25 points and had 16 rebounds for the University of Santo Tomas Tiger Cubs, who routed De La Salle Zobel for a 95-87 win and a 3-1 slate.
