DPWH rushing drainage improvements in Valenzuela

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is rushing drainage improvement works in Valenzuela City to address the recurring chest-deep flooding that has long affected several communities.

Public Works Secretary Vince Dizon said the agency aims to complete the drainage works within March. The project involves deepening and widening existing waterways to allow floodwaters to drain more quickly during heavy rains.

The improvements are expected to significantly reduce the risk of chest-deep flooding that residents experience almost every year.

“This is something that we really all need to work together on,” Dizon said, noting that DPWH already has projects designed to redirect excess water to the main waterway.

However, he stressed that the water channel must also be deepened to improve its capacity to carry floodwaters away from residential areas.
