Carlson ends diplomatic tour of duty in January

United States Ambassador to the Philippines MaryKay Carlson is set to conclude her tenure in January, the U.S. Embassy in Manila confirmed.

In a message to reporters on December 29, U.S. Embassy Spokesperson Jameson DeBose said the seasoned diplomat would complete her service next month.

“I have enjoyed a rewarding career as a State Department diplomat for more than 40 years, the highlight of which has been serving as Ambassador to the Philippines since July 2022,” Carslon said.

The Trump administration had recalled about 30 ambassadors and other senior career diplomats last week.

DeBose did not address this issue directly and reiterated that Carlson would leave after nearly three years of service.

In October, President Donald Trump appointed former businessman Lee Lipton as the new U.S. ambassador to the Philippines, succeeding Carlson.

The U.S. State Department said Lipton’s nomination has been sent to the U.S. Senate for confirmation. If confirmed, Lipton will take over from Carlson.
