PRESIDENT Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has named former Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Nicolas Torre III as the new Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) general manager, replacing Procopio Lipana, Malacañang announced on Friday.

Torre probably had the shortest stint as the PNP’s 31st chief, beginning in June 2025 and ended last August, replaced by  Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. in acting capacity.

Torre’s appointment to the MMDA came as the administration presses efforts to streamline traffic enforcement and strengthen inter-agency coordination in the capital.

The MMDA oversees policies and operations affecting the National Capital Region, including traffic regulation, disaster response coordination, and urban services.
