Students of public schools are in for a two-week Christmas break as the Department of Education (DepEd) on Tuesday announced the observance of the holiday break starting Dec. 20, 2025.
In a Facebook post, DepEd said classes in public elementary and high schools will resume on Jan. 5, 2026.
This is provided for in DepEd Order No. 12, series of 2025, or the ‘‘Multi-year Implementing Guidelines on the School Calendar and Activities,’’ which was released in April this year.
The directive stated that the ‘‘holiday break occurs during the last two weeks of December, with classes resuming within the first week of January of the following year.’’
It added that private schools, Philippine schools overseas, and state and local universities and colleges may adopt the guidelines but must comply with the law requiring the school calendar to be not more than 220 days.
‘‘The schools shall report any inevitable deviation from these guidelines in advance to their respective regional offices,’’ the order added.
