Lacson sees Blue Ribbon probe on flood control mess ending soon

Senate Blue Ribbon Committee Chair and President Pro Tempore Panfilo “Ping” Lacson announced that the panel is approaching the conclusion of its hearings concerning the flood control controversy, noting that legal cases have already been filed in court.

In a chance interview on Thursday, December 11, Lacson stated that the committee would produce a report and recommend charges.

“We cannot anymore elicit much information… But I think by and large we have contributed a lot to the efforts of the national government to get to the bottom of at least in some areas,” he said.

He emphasized that they must be cautious about the sub judice rule, which prohibits making statements that could influence ongoing cases.

Lacson also expressed satisfaction in having led the committee, which has aided investigations by the Department of Justice and the Independent Commission for Infrastructure into the alleged kickback scheme related to substandard or non-existent projects.

“By and large, we have contributed a lot to the efforts of the national government to get to the bottom of this,” he added.

In October, Lacson resigned as the head of the chamber, citing disappointment with the direction of the committee’s investigation into the flood control project controversy.

However, in November, he was re-elected to chair the Blue Ribbon Committee.
