Marcos puts Maralit in, Ruiz out of MECO board

President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos has formally endorsed Cherbett Karen Lucero Maralit as member of the Board of Directors of the Manila Economic and Cultural Office (MECO), replacing former Press Secretary Jay Ruiz.

Two Malacañang-issued documents obtained Tuesday show Mr. Marcos instructing MECO to elect Maralit to the post, marking a key personnel shift in the organization responsible for handling Manila’s economic and cultural relations with Taiwan.

The letters were addressed to MECO Chairperson Corazon Padiernos and dated December 2.

While the documents confirmed the President’s endorsement, they did not indicate the timeline for the board’s election nor details of Maralit’s expected responsibilities.

MECO has yet to issue a public statement regarding the transition.

Ruiz earlier held the top post at the Presidential Communications Office before he was replaced by current PCO Secretary Dave Gomez last July. He was then named as a member of the Board of Directors for MECO.
