THE Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) is set to deliver one of the most extensive agrarian reform interventions in the Negros Island Region as it distributes thousands of land titles and wipes out nearly P1.79 billion in unpaid land amortizations.
Agrarian Reform Secretary Conrado Estrella III will spearhead the event and also distribute
7,798 land titles covering 5,524 hectares to 4,788 agrarian reform beneficiaries across Negros Occidental, Negros Oriental and Siquijor.
He will also turn over P73.6 million worth of support services on Wednesday at the Manuel Y. Torres Memorial Coliseum and Cultural Center.
At least 15,000 certificates of condonation with release of mortgage to 13,822 farmer-beneficiaries, clearing P1.79 billion in decades-old unpaid obligations in Negros Oriental.
DAR will also strengthen agricultural productivity with the turnover of P67.6 million worth of farm machinery, equipment and agricultural inputs to 71 agrarian reform beneficiary (ARB) organizations in the region.
The agency will distribute P6 million in relief assistance to 5,913 individuals, including 5,675 agrarian reform beneficiaries as well as 238 DAR personnel affected by the devastation brought by typhoons “Tino” and “Uwan.”
The DAR chief said there will be 5,000 expected participants.
“Aside from providing support to our ARBs, our employees will also receive essential relief packages, including blankets, pails, slippers, flashlights, towels, coffee, sugar, and detergents—to help them recover and regain stability after the calamity,” he said in a statement.
