DHSUD gives modular shelters to fire victims

The Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) has turned over modular housing units to the San Juan City government to serve as temporary shelters for more than 100 families displaced by a fire.

DHSUD Secretary Jose Ramon Aliling said the units will also be used as a staging area for a project under the President’s Expanded Pambansang Pabahay para sa Pilipino (4PH) Program.

Aliling said the fire victims are potential beneficiaries of the expanded 4PH initiative in San Juan City. The program aims to provide long-term housing assistance to affected families while supporting local resettlement efforts.

He noted that close coordination with San Juan Mayor Francis Zamora allowed the establishment of the Expanded 4PH Staging Area in Barangay Batis. The site is designed to accommodate 156 families affected by the disaster.

The DHSUD said the modular units will help families transition safely as they await permanent housing solutions. Officials emphasized the importance of immediate shelter support following major fire incidents.

The turnover marks another step in strengthening the government’s response to urban housing challenges, particularly for vulnerable communities in densely populated areas.
