President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Saturday toured towns in Negros Occidental heavily affected by Typhoon Tino, inspecting damaged schools, bridges, and homes, and meeting with residents displaced by the storm.
The President began his visit at Jose Pepito Montilla Garcia Sr. National High School in Barangay 1, Moises Padilla, where classrooms were flooded during the typhoon. School officials reported significant damage and welcomed the President’s presence.
The school, which serves 1,257 students, has shifted to alternative learning arrangements while repairs are underway.
Earlier this week, the President approved P95 million in aid for communities hit by Typhoon Tino in Negros Occidental.
Of this amount, P50 million is allocated for the province; P10 million each for La Carlota City and the towns of La Castellana and Moises Padilla; and P5 million each for Binalbagan, Isabela, and Hinigaran.
Mr. Marcos also visited Barangay Poblacion in La Castellana to assess the condition of damaged homes and evacuees housed at La Castellana Elementary School.
According to the Department of Social Welfare and Development, 307 families, or 1,117 individuals, are currently staying at the temporary shelter.
The President then inspected the collapsed Bungahin Steel Bridge in Barangay Robles, La Castellana, which had cut off upland villages from the town proper during the storm.
After the field visits, Mr. Marcos joined a briefing at the La Castellana Municipal Hall with Cabinet members and local officials to review ongoing recovery and rehabilitation efforts.
