Social Welfare Secretary Rex Gatchalian has pledged full support to families in Southern Leyte affected by Typhoon Tino, saying the government will continue assistance until their recovery is complete.
Gatchalian made the assurance during a meeting with provincial and municipal leaders in Hinunangan, where he said the DSWD has a preliminary list of partially and totally damaged houses and will begin processing financial aid.
Families with partially damaged homes will receive P5,000, while those with totally damaged homes will receive P10,000. Gatchalian also visited affected communities on the instruction of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., who directed him to ensure that assistance reaches all affected households.
During the meeting, he instructed DSWD Field Office 8 to work with local officials to fast-track the release of additional non-food items, including kitchen kits, hygiene kits, and sleeping kits.
He also committed to sustaining food assistance for as long as local governments need it, noting that supplies are already available in the regional warehouse.
