Over 4.6M affected nationwide by ‘Uwan’ — NDRRMC

A total of 4.6 million people across multiple regions in Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao, with nearly one million people displaced due to widespread flooding, landslides, and storm surges during Super Typhoon Uwan (international name Fung-wong), the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported Thursday.

According to the NDRRMC, a total of 1,332,223 families (4,678,142 persons) in 11,661 barangays were impacted by the typhoon’s onslaught. Of these, 263,019 families (955,105 persons) are currently being assisted either inside or outside evacuation centers.

Region III (Central Luzon) and Region V (Bicol Region) recorded the highest number of affected residents, followed by Regions I (Ilocos), II (Cagayan Valley), and CALABARZON.

NDRRMC also reported that Uwan leaves 143 million worth of damage to the agriculture sector, affecting 4,639 fisherfolk and farmers nationwide.

Meanwhile, damage to infrastructure was placed at around 675 million pesos.

Office of Civil Defense Deputy Administrator Bernardo Alejandro IV said response and clearing operations are still ongoing, and damage figures can still change.
