DPWH workforce, machinery ready for ‘Uwan’ response—Dizon

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has launched full-scale preparedness measures across the country as super typhoon ‘Uwan’ nears its landfall, affecting several provinces nationwide.

Public Works Secretary Vince Dizon on Sunday said that a total of 9,405 personnel and 1,603 equipment units, including heavy machinery, have been strategically deployed to critical areas nationwide.

These resources form part of the DPWH’s Disaster and Incident Management Teams (DIMT), which are tasked with conducting pre-emptive clearing operations and ensuring the immediate repair and reopening of roads affected by the typhoon.

“Our President’s order is that we must be proactive. Even before Super Typhoon Uwan hits, our quick response teams are already in place,” Dizon emphasized. “Our personnel and equipment are on standby to assist local government units for pre-emptive clearing until the typhoon leaves the country.”

Dizon underscored the importance of advance preparedness, noting that ensuring accessibility of national roads and bridges is crucial for timely rescue and relief efforts.

The DPWH has also intensified its round-the-clock monitoring of major roads and vital transport corridors to provide real-time updates on any road closures or hazards. The agency reminded motorists to remain alert and heed advisories for their safety.

“Being prepared before the typhoon arrives is very important to expedite the opening of roads for necessary rescue and relief operations,” Dizon said.

The public is encouraged to stay tuned to official DPWH advisories and local government announcements as Super Typhoon ‘Uwan’ moves closer to the Philippines.
