The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) assured the public on Sunday that its disaster response units are on standby and ready for deployment as Typhoon Uwan (international name: Fung-wong) threatens to bring heavy rains and strong winds across parts of the country.
AFP Spokesperson Col. Francel Margareth Padilla told Manila Standard that the military has activated its disaster response units stationed in various camps nationwide to assist communities that may be affected by flooding, landslides, and other weather-related emergencies.
“Mayroon na pong in-place preparedness measures ang AFP para sa epekto ng Uwan. Naka-online po ang ating disaster response units sa iba’t ibang kampo at handang i-deploy kung kinakailangan,” Padilla said.
She added that while the AFP stands ready to help affected communities, military units are also implementing safety measures within their own camps to protect personnel, facilities, and critical equipment from possible damage.
