VinFast to boost electric fleet, expand retail network in PH

VinFast Philippines plans to accelerate its nationwide electric vehicle (EV) rollout, increasing the number of units from its Green Smart Mobility (GSM) fleet already on the road, with more coming in the next three months, VinFast Philippines chief executive Antonio Zara said in an interview.

GSM, the brand’s fleet-focused mobility arm and a part of VinFast’s battery electric vehicle (BEV) group, already has “thousands” of units operating, a number that is expected to “grow significantly over the next three months,” Zara said.

The GSM units are now being activated in Cebu, Davao and other metro cities nationwide.

“We will have a significant number within the year, and that will not end there. We will continue to grow GSM next year,” Zara said, without disclosing a specific deployment count.

He said the company is disclosing an official count at the next automotive report of the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines (CAMPI) as a news member association member.

GSM is expanding its presence, with GSM president Dao Quy Phi activating operations in Cebu, Zara said.

The VinFast Philippines CEO said demand for EVs is rising from both transport fleet operators, led by GSM’s competitive rates and individual EV buyers.

“As you can imagine, as we have all these units, and as they themselves are creating their disruptions in that transport industry, all the other operators are now asking. Because that’s the only way they can compete versus the rates of GSM,” Zara said, adding that they are looking at “high demand or growing demand, both from retail consumers.”

VinFast is pursuing the retail market through “disruptive ideas,” including a battery subscription model and a visible value guarantee program.

Zara confirmed that VinFast would have 15 to 16 dealerships by the end of the month, with plans to reach at least 30 by year-end and 50 by 2026. These will be spread across Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.

Alongside dealerships, the company is rolling out a nationwide network of third-party accredited workshops, similar to Bosch Car Service or Rapide hubs, that are trained and equipped by VinFast.

“The plan is 100 by year-end,” Zara said. These authorized workshops will be able to perform periodic maintenance, warranty repair and software updates, but heavy electronic diagnostics or major repairs will be exclusive to full dealerships.

“We provide the parts, the tools, the service information, the software — everything they need to operate like an authorized dealer,” he said.
