MORE Electric and Power Corp. announced lower electricity rates for May 2026 despite upward pressure on global commodity prices from the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
The residential rate for May fell to P11.8710 per kilowatt-hour from P12.14 per kWh in April. The commercial rate also dropped to P11.00 per kWh from P11.27 last month.
A lower transmission charge drove the drop in retail rates, declining by P0.26 per kWh from the previous month. The transmission adjustment also helped trim the system loss charge by P0.027 per kWh, as the overall system loss improved from 5.37 percent to 5.20 percent.
Higher coal prices, increased freight costs for imports, inflation and foreign exchange fluctuations pushed generation costs upward, causing the generation charge to rise by P0.05 per kWh. Wholesale Electricity Spot Market prices likewise climbed to P4.47 per kWh.
“We strive to provide our consumers with the best electricity rates despite the challenges we are currently facing,” MORE Power president and chief executive Roel Castro said.
