Jason Dy’s latest performance on Your Face Sounds Familiar struck the right note, even catching the attention of the artist he impersonated.
The singer wowed audiences after transforming into Grammy-winning star Sam Smith, performing Dancing With a Stranger during the show’s second week.
Channeling Smith’s smooth vocals and stage presence, Jason earned praise from both the judges and viewers, ultimately winning the round with 33 points and taking home ₱50,000.
Posting photos of his transformation on Instagram, Jason wrote, “ooh baby baby I’m dancing with a stranger as @samsmith for this week on @yourfaceph!”
To his surprise, the post didn’t go unnoticed. Sam Smith themselves liked and commented a heart emoji on Jason’s post.
“@samsmith OMG HELLO,” Jason replied, followed by “@samsmith r u kidding me wow hello omg.”
The recognition marked a full-circle moment for Jason, who first performed Sam Smith’s Stay With Me during his blind audition on The Voice of the Philippines in 2014.
