SOLARIS wins global awards for solar social housing model

Renewable energy company Jin Navitas Solaris Inc. (SOLARIS) won international recognition at the Asian Power Awards 2025 for its pioneering NING*NING Solar Rooftop Project, which integrates solar power generation with socialized housing development.

The world-first model, developed in partnership with housing developer Raemulan Lands Inc., secured the Gold for ESG Integration Excellence of the Year and Silver for Sustainable Renewable Energy Initiative of the Year at the ceremony held on Oct. 23 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

The NING*NING project is the first grid-connected, utility-scale solar rooftop installation within a social housing community.

It effectively transforms affordable homes into renewable energy generators, with each rooftop equipped with solar panels that feed power directly to the grid. By using existing rooftops, the model preserves farmland, unlike traditional, land-intensive solar farms.

A portion of the electricity sales from the project is channeled back to the community. The funding is used for essential services such as roof maintenance, street lighting, waste management, shared solar facilities and capacity development programs.

“NING*NING shows that clean energy can do more than power homes—it can uplift communities, preserve farmland, and directly share its benefits with people,” said SOLARIS president and chief executive Jose Alfonso Miras.

The pilot project, which was energized in 2024 in Naic, Cavite, covers 1,986 homes. It generates enough clean power for thousands of households and offsets 6,233 metric tons of CO2 emissions annually.

SOLARIS aims to expand the model across Bulacan, Cavite and Pampanga, with a combined 35 MW of rooftop capacity already secured under the Department of Energy’s Green Energy Auction Program.

“With more socialized housing developments rising across the country, we believe the NING*NING model can serve more communities—in the Philippines, and potentially beyond,” Miras said.

SOLARIS joined leading regional and Philippine energy innovators, including Aboitiz Power Corp., Meralco PowerGen Corp. and San Miguel Global Power Holdings Corp. at the 21st annual Asian Power Awards.
