No US crackdown on dual citizens – PH Embassy

The Philippine Embassy in Washington has refuted a viral video claiming that the United States government is poised to launch a crackdown on dual citizens starting in October 2025.

In a social media advisory on Monday night, (morning in Washington), the Embassy confirmed there are still no policy changes regarding dual citizenship in the U.S., reiterating their previous announcement from June.

“The United States continues to recognize that individuals may hold citizenship in more than one country. There is no new policy requiring dual citizens to renounce another nationality, nor is there a “crackdown” underway,” the post read.

The Embassy also urged Filipinos to verify information through official government sources, avoid sharing unverified content, and report false information to the platform where it is published.

“Please do not make legal decisions, such as renouncing your Philippine citizenship, based on social media content. Renunciation of Philippine citizenship is a serious, irreversible legal action,” it added.

This advisory was issued in response to a video circulating on social media in which Donald Trump supposedly said he would end dual citizenship in the country.
