PBBM back in Cebu, vows nonstop quake relief

President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. returned to Cebu on Friday to inspect the newly established Bayanihan Village in San Remigio and inspect ongoing relief operations for quake victims, assuring that all displaced families have access to temporary shelter, food, and essential services.

“We came back to check if the needs of those displaced, those who lost their homes in the recent earthquake, have been delivered,” Mr. Marcos said.

He checked modular shelters in San Remigio’s Bayanihan Village, ongoing repairs at the damaged Cebu Provincial Hospital in Bogo City, and conditions at the Tent City where evacuees are receiving basic services such as power, water, sanitation, and food support.

President Marcos said the government is already replacing temporary tents with sturdier modular shelters.

“Everybody who lost their house has somewhere to stay, even if for now it is only a tent. We are putting up stronger, better housing structures,” he said.

The President also credited the Philippine Red Cross, led by former Senator Richard Gordon, for its rapid response.

“The Red Cross made a big help… After one day, the chairman is here,” President Marcos said.

He also highlighted small but meaningful initiatives, such as a makeshift swimming pool set up for children in evacuation sites.

“It may seem like a small thing, but it’s not… that’s a big deal for the mental health of our youth,” he added.

According to Mr. Marcos, affected residents are receiving food packs, cash aid, water supply, toilet facilities, and construction materials to begin rebuilding.

“We want to make sure everybody is okay, everybody is healthy, everybody has what they need,” he said.

The President thanked first responders, volunteers, and government agencies for what he described as an organized and swift relief operation.

“Maybe we won’t be humiliated by people as long as there’s a need, there will be a way,” he said.

President Marcos mobilized a whole-of-government response in the aftermath of the 6.9-magnitude earthquake in Bogo City on September 30, 2025. During his October 2 visit, he ordered over P200-million in aid for Cebu’s provincial and local governments.

He also directed the Department of Budget and Management to release Local Government Support Funds to assist in rehabilitation efforts.
