Mayor Nancy Binay highlights initiatives in 1st 100 days in office

Makati City Mayor Nancy Binay marked her first 100 days in office by implementing a significant initiative aimed at improving accessibility to local government services.

This effort involves bringing these services directly to the residents’ doorsteps, thereby streamlining the process and removing the challenges typically associated with navigating bureaucratic procedures at City Hall.

This innovative approach reflects Binay’s commitment to enhancing community engagement and ensuring that critical services are more readily available to the public.

“When I see a senior citizen’s face light up because we brought their birthday cake and Yellow Card right to their door, that’s when I know we’re doing government right. Public service isn’t about making people come to us. It’s about us going to them, understanding their lives, and making things easier for them every single day,” said Binay.

In a landmark policy reform announced on July 14, Binay streamlined the Yellow Card application process, removing a critical obstacle that prevented residents from accessing comprehensive healthcare benefits. The results have been transformative: the city has distributed 7,843 Yellow Cards and conducted 7,592 Yellow Card home visits, with 4,186 for renewals and 3,406 for new applicants since July 2025.

This ensures more residents can access free maintenance medicines, unlimited dialysis and chemotherapy treatments, consultations, laboratory work, and hospitalization.

“I kept hearing from our residents that the process was too complicated, that they had to go back and forth too many times. So, we changed it. Government should never be a burden. It should be a helping hand,” the city chief executive said.

The Makati Action Center and Makati Social Welfare Department have become the heart of this service delivery revolution, with the administration completing 1,005 White Card home visits, conducting 1,435 home visitations for Blue Card Senior Citizen Benefit Tagging, and processing 3,209 Solo Parent Renewal applications.

All of these services were brought directly to residents’ doorsteps.

From September 19 onwards, 1,180 senior citizens across Guadalupe Viejo, Guadalupe Nuevo, Carmona, and Kasilawan have received birthday cakes personally delivered by the mayor and her team.

“The first 100 days taught me that every number in our reports represents a real person with real needs, real dreams, and real struggles. That’s why I go to the barangays myself and knock on doors. Because when you look into people’s eyes and shake their hands, you remember exactly why you’re here, and you’ll never forget who you’re working for,” said Binay.
