PH Embassy in Washington warns Pinoys against online fraudsters

The Philippine Embassy in Washington, D.C., has issued a warning on online messages and accounts that falsely claim to be from Ambassador Jose Manuel G. Romualdez.

In a social media post on Tuesday, October 7, the Embassy said that these communications may attempt to solicit personal information, money, favors, or “official” engagements.

“Beware of fraudulent messages impersonating Ambassador Jose Manuel G. Romualdez,” it warned.

To protect the public from falling victim to these scams, the Embassy issued the following reminders:

  • Do not engage, click links, or send money to anyone claiming to be the Ambassador or Embassy officials from unofficial accounts.
  • Verify first by contacting the Embassy only through our official channels listed below.
  • Check authenticity: Official announcements and invitations are issued on Embassy letterhead or through verified Embassy platforms and email domains.
  • Look for red flags: unusual requests, urgency/pressure, grammar or style inconsistent with official communications, non-official email domains, or personal messaging apps for “official” matters.

The Embassy further emphasized that it does not solicit money or personal information through unofficial accounts, and all legitimate communications will be conducted through verified channels and addresses.
