US Embassy assures continued services amid gov’t shutdown

The United States Embassy in Manila announced that passport and visa services will continue, but social media updates will be infrequent due to the federal government’s partial shutdown.

In an X post on Monday, the Embassy said that the Facebook, X, and Instagram accounts will not be updated regularly until full operations resume.

“Because of the lapse in appropriations, the U.S. Embassy’s Facebook, X, and Instagram accounts will not be updated regularly until full operations resume, with the exception of urgent safety and security information,” the statement reads.

However, the Embassy assured applicants that overseas scheduled passport and visa services will remain operational despite the lack of funding.

”At this time, scheduled passport and visa services in the United States and at U.S. Embassies and Consulates overseas will continue during the lapse in appropriations as the situation permits,” it added.

On Sunday, October 5, the federal government’s partial shutdown entered its fifth day after the U.S. Congress failed to reach a funding agreement, with only essential services continuing to operate.

A similar government shutdown in 2018 lasted for 35 days.
