Marilao residents seek answers over failed flood control projects

Local civic groups in Marilao on Sunday are calling for a thorough investigation into the town’s flood control projects, which according to the group reportedly received more than half a billion in funding since 2023.

Despite the substantial budget, citizens say little to no progress has been seen in addressing the town’s persistent flooding problem.

“More than half a billion has been allocated for the town’s flood control projects since 2023. But, in reality, nothing has been done. We Marileños have been made to think it’s acceptable to endure a deluge as long as there’s aid from politicians,” Tindig Marilao said.

In a statement, the group criticized the apparent failure of local authorities to deliver meaningful results, echoing the sentiment: “Marilao is rich in water — but only when it floods.”

The group demanded transparency and accountability from both current and former local officials.

The group also urged the current local government to review and investigate projects implemented under the previous administration, and to make public the actual status of flood control efforts in Marilao.

Citizens said the public deserves to know where the funds went and why flooding remains a recurring issue despite repeated infrastructure promises.
