Cebu tremors claim 3 Coast Guard personnel

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) mourns the loss of three of its personnel following the collapse of the San Remegio Sports Complex in San Remegio, Cebu—one of the towns severely hit by the magnitude-6.9 earthquake on the evening of September 30, 2025.

The fallen Coast Guardians were identified as Seaman Second Class (SN2) Lawrence Palomo, Apprentice Seaman (ASN) Jujay Mahusay, and ASN Ert Cart Dacunes.

All three were rushed to the Bogo General Hospital for emergency medical treatment. Despite the efforts of attending physicians, they were all pronounced dead.

PCG Commandant Admiral Ronnie Gil Gavan extended condolences to the families of victims and honored their dedication to the service.

“The PCG stands in full solidarity with their loved ones and will ensure that they receive the utmost support,” Gavan said.

The San Remegio Sports Complex was hosting a basketball game between members of the PCG and the Bureau of Fire Protection when the building collapsed after the massive quake struck.
