Domestic trade hit over P1 trillion in second quarter of 2025

Domestic trade in the Philippines reached P1.07 trillion in the second quarter of 2025, with most goods moved by road, preliminary data from the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) showed over the weekend.

Road transport accounted for P662.40 billion of the total trade value. This was an 8.79-percent decline from P726.24 billion in the first quarter when it was first included in the commodity flow survey.

Goods moved by water reached P403.58 billion, a 45.9-percent increase from P276.56 billion a year earlier.

Air-transported goods came in at P592 million, down 36.06 percent from P926 million in the second quarter of 2024.

The PSA said that in terms of volume, total domestic trade reached 15.13 million tons from April to June 2025.

The primary mode of transport was by water with 7.88 million tons, followed by road transport with 7.25 million tons and air transport with 5,162 tons.

The CALABARZON region led in outflow value at P220.43 billion, or 20.7 percent of the total. The National Capital Region (NCR) and Western Visayas followed with P209.53 billion (19.6 percent) and P159.75 billion (15.0 percent), respectively.

Meanwhile, Central Visayas had the highest inflow value of traded commodities, posting P257.08 billion or 24.1 percent of the total domestic trade in the second quarter of 2025.

This was followed by NCR with P215.76 billion (20.2 percent) and CALABARZON with P87.61 billion (8.2 percent).

The trade balance in the second quarter of 2025 was most favorable in CALABARZON at P132.82 billion, followed by Western Visayas (P123.90 billion) and Northern Mindanao (P85.67 billion).

Trade balance is the difference between goods that exit a specific region (outflows) and products that enter (inflows).
