House Infrastructure Committee lead chairperson and Bicol Saro party-list Rep. Terry Ridon on Sunday confirmed that dismissed Bulacan first district assistant engineer Jaypee Mendoza of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has left the protective custody of the House of Representatives.
“Upon his own request, Mr. Jaypee Mendoza has left the protective custody of the House of Representatives on 12 September 2025,” Ridon said. “He expressed his wish to be with his family at this time,” the lawmaker added.
Mendoza was placed under House custody after receiving threats to his life during a recent public hearing on the anomalous flood control projects involving the DPWH first district engineering office in Bulacan, where he used to work.
“The House infrastructure committee, nonetheless, hopes that Mr. Mendoza will continue to appear in future committee hearings to provide further information relevant to the ongoing inquiry,” Ridon said further.
Mendoza claimed receiving a death threat from a “hitman,” prompting him to request the House infrastructure committee to place him under its protective custody.
He is facing a complaint of graft and corruption and malversation of public funds, along with three other DPWH engineers, before the Office of the Ombudsman in connection with the questionable flood control projects in Bulacan.
