Japan-bound PAL flight returns to NAIA over ‘pressurization issue’

A Philippine Airlines (PAL) flight to Japan with 191 passengers and eight crew on board returned to Manila on Wednesday morning due to an emergency mid-air situation.

“On September 3, 2025, at approximately 10:08 a.m. (Manila time), Philippine Airlines Flight PR 412, operated by an Airbus A321-231 (A321CEO) with registry RP-C9928, en route from Manila (MNL) to Kansai (KIX), experienced a pressurization issue,” PAL said in a statement.

Following safety protocols, the flight crew initiated a descent to a lower altitude and declared an emergency as a precautionary measure.

The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) confirmed the incident, saying the flight departed from Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) at 9:26 a.m. and landed safely back at the airport at 11:15 a.m.

The flag carrier stated that the problem was subsequently resolved, with emergency protocols being downgraded afterward.

“All passengers and crew members have safely disembarked. Our ground operations team is providing full assistance to affected passengers, including meals, baggage support, and rebooking arrangements for their onward travel,” PAL said.

It has since assured stakeholders that it is “in coordination with the relevant authorities.”
