The Land Transportation Office (LTO) on Saturday said it suspended the driver’s license of one of its officials in the Zamboanga Peninsula for reckless driving that led to a road crash.
LTO Chief Assistant Secretary Vigor D. Mendoza II said the official, assigned at the Human Resources and Management Office of LTO Region 9, was instructed to surrender his license to Regional Director retired police general Roderick Minong.
“This is proof that we neither condone nor tolerate traffic violations within our ranks. As members of the LTO family, we must be models of road safety,” Mendoza said.
Initial investigation showed the official was driving a pick-up truck from Pagadian City to Zamboanga City when he suddenly sped off, causing the vehicle to plunge into a swamp. The video went viral.
The officer faces reckless driving and “Improper Person to Operate a Motor Vehicle” charges, which carry license revocation. Administrative charges may also follow, depending on the investigation.
