QC authorities probe falling debris incident that hurt 2 kids

The Quezon City government called for an investigation to determine who is to blame for the falling debris that seriously injured two high school students at Tomas Morato Avenue on Tuesday.

“The safety and well-being of our citizens, especially our youth, is our primary concern,” the city government said in a statement on Wednesday.

“We regret the fate of two children who were seriously injured when a slab of concrete fell on them from a condominium in Tomas Morato.

The city’s Social Services and Development Department will support and assist the children and their families, it assured.

“Let us pray for their speedy recovery,” the city government added.

Last Tuesday at about 4:30 p.m., the victims — all minors and students of Don Roces Science High School — were walking in front of a building on Tomas Morato Avenue when a portion of concrete from the upper structure fell.

The students had just stepped out of a convenience store when the accident happened.

Two of the victims were found lying on the pavement and suffered severe injuries to the head.

They were rushed to the Capitol Medical Center.

“The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) is working closely with the concerned agencies to inspect the site, assess the structural integrity of the building, and ensure that surrounding structures pose no danger to the public,” the QCPD said in a separate statement.
