In swift response to the large-scale fire that engulfed residential areas in Barangay 105, Tondo, Manila, the Philippine Air Force (PAF) deployed its air assets to augment firefighting and support operations alongside national and local agencies on August 6, 2025.
According to the PAF, the 505th Search and Rescue Group dispatched a Huey II and a PZL W-3A Sokol helicopter, while the 205th Tactical Helicopter Wing deployed an S-70i Black Hawk.
These aircraft conducted a total of 39 aerial firefighting sorties with the Huey II performing 33 water drop missions. The Sokol and Black Hawk helicopters conducted three sorties each.
“These coordinated efforts were carried out in close collaboration with the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) and other government agencies to contain and suppress the fast-spreading fire, which has displaced hundreds of families,” Air Force spokesperson Col. Consuelo Castillo said.
The Air Force said it remains committed to supporting civil authorities during emergencies and disaster response operations.
