Makati Mayor Nancy Binay on Wednesday called for unity and cooperation from the Sangguniang Panlungsod, while emphasizing the need for responsible governance to drive the city’s progress.
Speaking at the inaugural session of the city council, Mayor Binay urged councilors to go beyond being a rubber stamp and to thoroughly review all legislative proposals. She underscored the importance of thoughtful deliberation to ensure ordinances serve the best interests of the people.
“The people deserve a council that diligently deliberates ordinances,” she said. “Not one that merely skims through things and nods in agreement with whoever speaks loudest.”
Binay also drew from her experience in the Senate, saying good governance transcends political lines. “We knew how to set aside politics when it came to passing laws that benefited the nation. We hope to do the same here in Makati,” she said.
She added that her administration will focus on delivering “serbisyong best”—services that are fast, accessible, and truly beneficial. The mayor also announced plans to support Makati’s role as a creative and business hub, including renewed backing for the Poblacion Heritage Conservation Project.
