The combined impact of tropical cyclones ‘Crising,’ ‘Dante,’ ‘Emong’ and the southwest monsoon or habagat left at least 31 people dead, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported on Monday.
Those who did not survive the series of storms were found in the following regions based on the July 28 update of the NDRRMC as of 6:00 a.m.:
- Metro Manila – 9
- Western Visayas – 6
- Calabarzon – 5
- Negros Island Region – 3
- Northern Mindanao – 3
- Central Luzon – 2
- Mimaropa – 1
- Davao Region – 1
- Caraga – 1
The recent weather disturbances have affected a total of 6,276,280 individuals, or 1,751,776 families, across all regions except Eastern Visayas. Central Luzon posted the highest number of calamity-stricken residents at 2.6 million.
Of those displaced, 122,716 people (36,660 families) sought shelter in evacuation centers, while 80,766 individuals (21,309 families) were staying with relatives or in other temporary shelters.
Damage to infrastructure was estimated at over P6.5 billion, with agriculture losses amounting to more than P510 million and irrigation systems sustaining P281 million in damage.
The NDRRMC said 15,309 houses were damaged—13,387 partially and 1,652 completely destroyed. Widespread power outages, water supply disruptions, and communication line failures were also reported.
Transport operations were hit hard with several airports and seaports rendered non-operational. Seventy passengers and 10 vessels remain stranded.
Classes in 1,045 areas and work in 911 areas were suspended as heavy rains and flooding persisted.
A state of calamity has been declared in 192 cities and municipalities, including the provinces of Cavite, Bataan, Pampanga, Rizal, Laguna, Oriental Mindoro, and Negros Occidental. Other affected localities include:
- Pangasinan – Dagupan City, Umingan, Mangaldan, Lingayen, Malasiqui, Calasiao, San Carlos, Binmaley, Aguilar, Basista
- La Union – Bauang
- Bulacan – Calumpit, Balagtas, Paombong, Meycauayan, Marilao, Bulakan (Barangays Matungao and Tibig), Hagonoy, Obando, Guiguinto
- Tarlac – Paniqui, Camiling, Moncada
- Zambales – Masinloc
- Metro Manila – Quezon City, Marikina, Navotas, Manila, Valenzuela, Caloocan, Las Piñas, Parañaque
- Batangas – Agoncillo, Nasugbu, San Luis, Tanauan, Tingloy
- Palawan – Roxas
- Occidental Mindoro – Mamburao, Sablayan
- Antique – Sebaste, Barbaza, Culasi
- Iloilo – Pototan
- Cebu – Cebu City
At present, a total of P514.6 million worth of aid has been distributed to affected communities, according to the NDRRMC.
