Over 600k families benefit from DHSUD moratorium

More than 600,000 families stand to benefit from the payment moratorium implemented by attached agencies of the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD), in compliance with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive to extend all available assistance to victims of recent weather disturbances.

In a statement, the National Housing Authority (NHA) said about 500,000 households will benefit from the one-month moratorium to be imposed this August.

Meanwhile, the Social Housing Finance Corporation (SHFC) reported that more than 148,000 families whose homes and livelihoods were severely impacted by the recent typhoons and the intensified southwest monsoon (habagat) will benefit from the moratorium.

For its part, the National Home Mortgage Finance Corporation (NHMFC) announced that a total of 34,622 families will also be granted a one-month payment moratorium. The moratoriums imposed by NHA, SHFC, and NHMFC are automatic; member-beneficiaries need not apply to avail. The uncollected payments will be added at the end of their payment terms.

On the other hand, the one-month moratorium of the Home Development Mutual Fund or Pag-IBIG Fund is not automatic to give members the option not to avail. Those who wish to avail must apply at Pag-IBIG branches. DHSUD Secretary Jose Ramon Aliling commended the agencies for their swift action, noting the department’s preparation of post-disaster assistance through its Integrated Disaster Shelter Assistance Program (IDSAP).
