Manila Police District (MPD) Director PGen. Arnold Abad has warned the public against the operation of the so-called “Dura-Dura Gang” following the arrest of five of its members who allegedly stole from a nurse in Sta. Ana, Manila.
The suspects, all residents of Old Sta. Mesa, were apprehended by the MPD District Police Intelligence Operation Unit (DPIOU) led by PMaj. Kevin Rey Bautista. Charges have been filed against them before the Manila Prosecutor’s Office.
According to Bautista, the group victimized a 53-year-old private nurse from San Juan City at around 9 a.m. on July 15. The incident occurred after she disembarked from a bus on Taft Avenue. One suspect bumped her while another tapped her shoulder to distract her.
Shortly after getting off the bus, the woman saw one of the men place her cellphone into his bag while boarding a motorcycle. Realizing she had been robbed, she immediately reported the incident to the MPD.
A follow-up operation led to the suspects’ arrest and the recovery of the stolen cellphone and two black motorcycles allegedly used in the heist. Police also linked the group to other criminal activities, including illegal gambling, robbery, theft, and violations of the Omnibus Election Code.
