More errant transport providers apprehended in NAIA

A total of 14 additional taxi units and other vehicles were apprehended in a continued crackdown against errant public transport providers operating at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).

The latest operation was carried out by a team from the Philippine National Police (PNP) Aviation Security Group (AVSEGROUP) in collaboration with the Land Transportation Office (LTO), New NAIA Infra Corp. (NNIC), and the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA).

This initiative aimed to target unauthorized (colorum) taxi operations and illegal fare practices within the airport complex. Therefore, the composite team focused on identifying and apprehending abusive taxi drivers involved in overcharging, unauthorized passenger contracting, refusal to convey passengers, and operating without the proper franchise authority.

As a result of this operation, 14 public utility vehicles (PUVs) were found in violation of existing transportation regulations, primarily due to breaches of franchise conditions and overcharging.

All apprehended vehicles were initially brought to AVSEGROUP’s headquarters for documentation and have since been transferred to the LTO Central Office in Quezon City for proper disposition.

These violators will face appropriate penalties and administrative sanctions following LTO and relevant transport regulations.

“I reaffirm our commitment to enforcing the law decisively, serving with compassion, and upholding the dignity of every passenger we are sworn to protect, not only within our airports but throughout the broader transportation landscape, shielding the riding public from abuse and exploitation,” AVSEGROUP Director Brig. Gen. Jason Capoy said.
