The Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) announced around 11:00 a.m. Wednesday it resumed normal train operations after resolving a technical glitch that affected its services between Recto to Araneta Center-Cubao stations.
“LRT Line 2 is back to full line operation after the problem of the rectifier substation in Katipunan station was successfully fixed,” LRTA said in an updated advisory.
With this development, the LRTA said it is offering two-day free rides to all commuters from June 25 to 26, as instructed by the Department of Transportation (DOTr).
Commuters earlier had to endure long lines and risked being late to find alternative public transportation after LRT-2 was placed under “provisionary service” due to a technical malfunction.
Train routes to and from Recto to the Araneta Center-Cubao stations were rendered temporarily unavailable, as LRTA engineers repaired their electrical system.
In an interview over DZBB, LRTA Administrator Hernando Cabrera explained that two of their rectifiers—electrical devices that convert electricity to operate the trains—failed to function properly. He said the problem would be resolved by around lunch.
Cabrera apologized to the passengers for the inconvenience it has caused to their daily commute. LRT-2 delayed opening their gates to passengers on Wednesday because of the issue. The line operates from the Recto station in Manila to Antipolo City in Rizal.
